From 10.1 to 2022- How to ID clients?
We have just renewed our Bartender and are upgrading from 10.1 to 2022. I read through the documents and have a few questions:
First, how do I identify Bartender clients on my network that I will need to update? Should I use a tool like PDQ to look for a specific field, or can the Bartender server produce a list?
Second, is it possible to make such a large jump in one step? I have seen references to 10.1 going to 2016, and 2016 going to 2022, and there are a couple of places they indirectly refer to doing this, but nothing specific. Any experience that I can draw from?

Hi!
Welcome to the BarTender Community Forums!
Sadly, BarTender 10.1 has no way of determining the installation locations for BarTender clients or providing us with a list. However, as you mentioned, PDQ and other software inventory tools should do the trick and provide you with a comprehensive list of machines in your network running our software.
Regarding your second question, we would need to analyze other environmental questions; how many machines would need upgrading? are all of these machines compatible with BarTender 2022 (you can check the compatibility matrix between Windows and BarTender here)? what maintenance window do we have? how many BarTender licenses are there on the environment?
That being said, our software does have a Provisional Activation option which can act as a secondary licensing server while you are performing the switch to the newer version. Depending on your edition, this provisional activation can range from 30 to 180 days, so it's plenty of time for upgrading the environment and virtually no production downtime.
Finally, we do also have a Professional Services team who can assist you with upgrading your environment if you need help with the process.
I hope this was helpful, and if you have further questions, feel free to reach us again!0 -
One quick suggestion following on from the above but if you are using the Automation or Enterprise edition of 10.1 you maybe able to see some of the user information if you open the main Seagull Licence Server application and click on the Users tab. I believe that will only show operators who have printed in the previous 7 days but it may help you.
