Test Upgrade From BT 2016 to Newest Version Question

Hello, I have been tasked with testing updating Bartender 2016 to the latest version on a VM.  We own 2016 as well as having the licensing to upgrade it to the latest version.  Do I need another license to just test updating it on a virtual machine?  Or can I test it without buying another license?

  You should be able to provisionally activate the new version on a different server whilst continuing to run the old version for a short period of time.
