Migrating from 10.1 Pro to 2016 Automation
Hi,
I've inherited a setup with three zebra-style printers that was set up on a single XP machine with BarTender Pro 10.1
After speaking with a reseller about how to upgrade I've found out this is an old version and they've recommended going to 2016 Automation, this will be on Windows 10 clients and Server 2008 R2.
I have read the manual but I have a couple of questions someone may be able to help with:
- We currently have a network share filled with .BTW files. Automation's central database sounds much better, can we import these existing flat-file labels into it?
- In the server directory setup is there any need for any/all of these to be accessible to clients?
- How exactly do the server and client Service Accounts work with regards to permissions? It looks like the server could do with a special user account for security compartmentalization but the server software looks like it supports AD user permissions for the connecting users, so can I just have the clients as Local System for their Service Accounts?
Many thanks,
Jonathan

Well, as it's taken a couple of days to get the OP approved I am pressing through the trial.
The answer to point one seems to be that we actually don't get Librarian on normal Automation, the re-seller must have been thinking of Enterprise Automation. Which is a big shame as I can't justify the price jump to EA just to get that feature, flat files it is then.

Yes - Librarian document repository is only available in Enterprise Automation edition.
When windows authentication is used, the login user to run BarTender (or user to run Integration) must have enough access rights on the SQL Server.
When SQL authentication is used, you need to have specific login and password in the SQL Server, then you can specify user from Administration console's system database setup wizard.
You can import current documents (*.btw files) to Librarian by drag and drop to folder tree (left pane).

Thank you very much for the reply. I've got that set up with Windows Authentication and no issues.
I am having trouble with the Licence Server though, the service is running and has an activated Automation key in it. The clients are not seeing the server though, they still show as in trial mode. Is there some documentation on how to troubleshoot this/force a license server check?
Best regards, Jonathan

Client PC need to install BarTender Designer (and other suites applications) but not to install License Server, then activate the same product key code as license server.
To connect across different segment, after activate BarTender, Administer > Licensing Setup to specify server.
