Printer Tray Settings Ignored

I am running into printer tray setting issues of my own.

We print through Citrix and tried installing duplicate printers for users (each set to default to a specific tray).

We had some success initially but it never lasted, possibly due to the way the label seems to save the last printer it printed from.

In Bartender I've gone file->Page setup -> Page tab and ensured the paper tray source is "use printer settings".

We are trying to avoid letting users get access to the full "Bartender" application - preferring the much simpler print station.

    To Dave,

In the BarTender document (.btw), under the "File > Page Setup" dialog, what Paper Tray selection have you made?

    To Dan,

Are you perhaps printing BarTender documents which contain a serial number? If yes, then the BarTender document will be automatically saved when being closed. Also, if for Print Station document folder you use a folder which is "user" related such as "MyDocuments", each Citrix user can have each own BarTender document (.btw) selection. This way, you could also create one .btw document per Citrix user and point each BT document to a specific paper tray. Does this help?

If I go the 'My Documents' route we wouldn't be using Librarian right? The goal is to use Librarian for our master copies of each label.

We will be trying giving certain users access to the full Bartender application if they need specific tray printing, instead of Print Station. There are not many users that need this.

Ideally Print Station would have a printer properties button to allow them to choose a tray.

Is it the input tray, or the output tray you're wishing to choose at print time via Print Station?

For an output tray, there is currently no standard property that we can expose when automating BarTender (e.g. automating BT via the use of Print Station). Any particular driver manages this as a property in the private configuration data, and they all do it differently. This makes us impossible for us to implement a standard "Output Tray" selection feature in Print Station.

Input tray is what we're trying to control, via Citrix.

    Domingo,

"use printer settings" is selected, but apparently this is ignored.

To Dan: This has now been entered as a feature request in our system

To Dave: On your computer, open the Windows Services (go to "Start > Run", then write services.msc). You will now see a service called "BarTender System Service". Under which Windows account is it running? Please note that Print Station will use this same account. As a test, could you try to log to Windows with this user, then manually start BarTender, open the BarTender document and print the label? Will still the correct Tray be used?

    Hi,

We use PrintStation v 10.0 SR4 to print labels through an App-V bubble.

When a default print tray is defined on a printer, Print Station will ignore this and will select the first available tray.

When i print the same label through Bartender on the same printer with the same tray settings, the correct tray is used.

    Someone experiencing the same issue?

    Regards,

    Dave

Dave, is the problem you're having similar to the following steps?

    1. The original BarTender document is set up for Printer 1, and tray selection is set to Tray 2 containing envelopes.
    2. At print time, in Print Station, you switch to printer 2. Tray reverts to Tray 1. On this printer, Tray 1 may not necesarily have the same meaning as printer 1.
    3. Another operator switches back to Printer 1. Tray reverts to Tray 1, which is definitely not what you want.

If you don't switch printers at all in Print Station, and your problem is that when printing the same BT document via BarTender and then via Print Station you see a different tray being selected, please let me know.

    -----------------

In the latest ver 16 I don't see "BarTender System Service" under services.msc and "use printer settings" is being ignored by automation without setting up the user correctly.

Are you running with sufficient admin rights to see/access your computers services, as if BarTender 2016 is installed on your PC then you should be able to see it?
