Update Seagull License Server From 8.01 To 10.1 Sr2

Hello everyone,

we use Bartender 8.01 clients and Seagull License Server 8.01.

We want to upgrade first the license Server to the newest Version (10.1 SR2) and then subsequently the Clients one by one.

Can i Just run the setup on the server and follow the instructions or do i have to deactivate some Services or anything like that?

The Server is a Windows Server 2003 R2, The Clients are mostly Windows xp Machines and some Windows 7.

Are the 8.01 Clients gonna work with the latest version of Seagull license Server? Or do the Clients have to be updated at the same time to work?

  Hello, 

   

  In order to activate your License Server upgrade, you need to deactivate the current 8.01 license, then uninstall the current License Server and reboot the server so that all the background services are stopped correctly. Then you can install the version 10.1 of License Server on the server and activate it. 

   

  The current BarTender clients will automatically detect the new License Server and will be able to function alongside the BarTender clients using the version 10.1, however, it is recommended to use the latest version of BarTender whenever possible.

   

  Please note that the version 8.01 of BarTender is not compatible with Windows 7. Also note that the version 10.1 of BarTender is compatible with Windows XP SP3 up until Windows 8.1.

  Everything went fine with the license server. I'll start updating the clients next week.

   

  How do go best about updating the clients? Do i uninstall the old Bartender 8.01 first, or can i just run the setup for the new version right away?

  Hello, 

   

  You can normally run the installer of the version 10.1 on top of the version 8.01, however, best practice is to uninstall the older version before installing the newer version. 

   

  You can deactivate the BarTender client before uninstalling it but it is not mandatory, for Automation editions, only the status of License Server impacts your license's activation status.
