Same Info, Different Places
Future Ex-Zebra Designer user here, first time'er for BarTender V10.
We are introducing a QR code to our product ID labels. We have 7 lines of information, one of which is the product serial number. The Serial number also appears as a separate line (what I will refer to as the "MAIN SN:") of text outside the QR code.
How do I get the SN in the QR code to automatically be the same as the "MAIN SN:" I entered in the prompt box when printing? Will this follow as I print a sequence of 8 labels?

1. Give the data source a name, either in the barcode or external text object, it doesn't matter which.
2. In the other object go to give it a name as well, however, this time you will see that you are given the option to link to an already created named data source. Select to link to the data source name previously created.
3. Now when printing this shared data source will be the same value in both objects.0 -
Well, all that did was delete the other lines of information in the QR code. Is their a way to INSERT the named field? 0 -
I take it that you have created more than one data source in the QR code with the shared serial number being a data source on its own? I ask because from what you said it sounds like you only have one, which is why when you changed it to be the previously shared value from the text object that it wiped out all the other data items in the barcode. 0 -
Well, as of last night's meeting, it seems the company is going even further with this. I think this is going to take some real training to accomplish the ultimate goal. So, let's see if I can get to the immidiate need wich will be more manual and later I can decribe the ultimate goal.
Label Layout: This is a thermal transfer from a Zebra 110Xi4 on 1"x1" or 2"x2" label stock. This is for product ID.
Lines 1-5 are human readable;
Line 1 = Item Description around 16 characters.
Line 2 = Part Number at 20 characters.
Line 3 = Serial Number, auto increment from a typed in start point (e.g. 006349) and a specified prefix of 9 characters.
Line 4 = Power Input, 15 characters.
Line 5 = Patent, 30 characters.
The following lines are the QR code content;
QR1 = Line 2.
QR2 = Line 3.
QR3 = Line 4.
QR4 = www. (mfg. web site).
QR5 = www. (mfg. support web site).
QR6 = PH: (Tech support phone number).
QR7 = Line 5.0 -
The ultimate goal is that I set up a generic template. When the Materials Planner loads a work order, SAP will also trigger the label to be printed. SAP will select the appropriate printer (1" label stock or the printer with 2"). SAP will generate a serial number string. A separate document (likely an excel spreadsheet) will contain the information for all the separate lines and automatically kick out the labels. 0 -
Create separate data sources in the QR code for each of you QRn data items. For the items that are shared from a text object, reference the data source (share) name as previously explained. I suggest you take a look at the below training video as it will help you understand label design principles.

Well, I was able to set up a template that references a data source, Excel. How can I put multiple part number labels on this spread sheet (data source) with the differing lines of information and get the software to ask me what part number label to print (what line of information to print into the various fields). 0 -
I guess you are asking how to perform a database query? If yes then watch these training videos.

Thank you.

Once you learn how BT thinks and works, it is less painful. It also helps to realize the full URL was not part of the links.

Yes I notice that the forum corrupts the URL for some links that we post when it shortens them. We're looking into the problem.
