GS1 Datamatrix new AI (8014)
Hi,
There's a new GS1 AI 8014 that i need to use.
This is not possible and whatever i do the AI code is not seperated as it doesn't seem to be supported in my Bartender version 2022 r2.
Is this updated in the new R8 version?
or can i get it to work some other way?
If I switch out 8014 to for example 8013 then it's all fine.
/Steven

No 8014 is not included in R8 either. There is a updated version of BarTender due to be released shortly but I am not sure if that will include it.
You can still add an GS1 barcode with an 8014 AI although you would probably need to add the human readable as a text object (using Object Value type) so you can add the brackets round the AI. The usual formatting for the 8014 data will also not be present so you would need to make sure that your data matches the requirements.
A bit of a pain I know in view of all the other AIs in your symbol

I was hoping it would work, unfortunately it didn't ☹️
In your example it was the first AI and standalone so looked correct, but when I combine it together with other AI:s the 8014 is not on presented on a separate row.0 -
No your will not work work as you are using the Human Readable for the barcode which as mentioned above you will need to replace with a Text object. You can also not encode the brackets into the symbol.
I would suggest making the "Human Readable" first then linking those fields into the DataMatrix symbol however the GTIN check digit also creates an issue, so I would suggest:
- Add a text field onto the label (or to the side if it is not needed as a separate item) that just contains the GTIN number. Make this a Named Data Source too.
- Add a Normal Wrapped text object for the human readable and this should be made up of a number of substrings. As the Application Identifiers (AIs) are in a text object only and will not be encoded in the DataMatrix symbol from here then they can be typed in with the brackets. For (10), (17) and (8014) you can also add a preceding Carriage Return to make sure the text is displayed correctly on different lines and I also added a space after each on my design.
- Add each element in turn making sure to link the GTIN field to the text object added previously.
- Give values for the Batch Number, Date and the 8014 data a name to make them more readily accessible when you build the DataMatrix string.
- The DataMatrix symbol itself is made up in a similar with multiple substrings/data sources. For each AI just type the number without the brackets.
- For the GTIN, again link to the text item via the Object Value type but then go to the Transforms and set to discard the characters on right to one to remove the check digit. BarTender knows that 01 AIs require a check digit and so will automatically calculate this,
- Link the data, for the batch, date and the 8014 to the named data sources you set up above.
- As the Batch AI can have a variable length you will also need to add a extra data source with a value of ^1 so that your system will know when the batch ends and the next AI is present.
Your DataMatrix symbol should something like this. I have left the Human Readable set to Full in the image below and you can see from this the system has not picked up the 8014 AI and data as BarTender does not recognise this AI currently. As long as the system that the symbol is being scanned into knows this AI then that should not be an issue I would expect.
For yours make sure the Human Readable visibility is set to None and adjust and move your text object containing the "human readable" to the side of your code

Thanks for your help Peter Thane
I scanned your generated barcode above with GS1 app but it does not meet the GS1 standard.
Also, it's confirmed on the new March update where 8014 is supported.0 -
I haven't access to a 2D "verifier" that includes the new AIs and so cannot check this nor have I looked at the GS1 spec for the full requirements for this AI. If it is included in 11.4 then hopefully you will be able to get up and running shortly.
I will compare the output once I have updated my copy to see if anything jumps out (an extra F1 required etc)

Just replicated in 11.4 and it looks like it needs a check character as part of the spec
