Using Bartender Enterprise Automation (EA3) to print multiple DPI templates to 110Xi4 (600dpi)
We've recently purchased Bartender version mentioned above and beginning to create templates based on previous ones created with Bar-One. I have 2 questions regarding the use of "print to file" execution.
1. We have two different DPI templates that we print to the same 110Xi4 (600dpi) printer. One is created for 600dpi and the other is created for 200dpi. My question is how do I tell Bartender to use a particular DPI when printing / "print to file" without setting up two separate printers. (I used the "convert" setting (200-->600) to print the 200dpi template on my printer. I haven't found a setting that will output my 200dpi template to my 600dpi printer.
I shouldn't have to use 2 printer licenses to print to 1 printer.
2. We are also looking at using this application to send "etch" print jobs to Epilog etchers. When using a "print to file" method of printing will the power parameters, etc be embedded in the output file?

Hi Ryan,
1. I have not tried this to see the output but in BarTender on the File > Print screen >Printer Properties > Tools Dropdown and Driver Options you can Override Manufacturers Defaults on the Printer Specification screen and amend the DPI you are using. Back on the File > Print screen you may also need to select the Use Settings For This Document Only on the Object Print Method screen to make the new DPI apply just to the format you are producing rather than a global change.
Not a clue exactly how that will impact on the label formatting in BarTender etc. as I have never actually tried it.
2. Again not something I have tried but a quick Google search seem to suggest at least some of the Epilog devices are compatible, Normally when creating a PRN file BarTender exports all the printer driver settings too and as long as the etcher users a windows printer driver that the settings are contained in then I expect this may be the case here also, but I am not sure as these may only be there when actually printing. If you are using the Print to File on the Print screen and it doesn't work, you could try setting the devices port to File and see if that does it.

Thanks Pete,
Unfortunately, the Seagull driver only reports the support of 600dpi even though the printer itself can do 200, 300 or 600. I checked the settings you suggested, but it's limited to 608 x 608.

I am able to amend these settings on my printer driver (using 2018_2 drivers).
Not sure what else to suggest, there is a ZBI sample program in the back of the programming manual to convert from one resolution to another (203 to 300 i think it is) and so perhaps you could create something like this and load it on to the printer and (if possible) use say the File>Print>Document Properties>Page Setup>Advanced Options and User Commands to send a command to run the ZBI (At Start of Job perhaps) but not sure how you woiud do this.
To be honest ff i were trying to send a 203dpi printer command to a printer I would use the appropriate resolution driver, but I am not entirely sure why you are trying to print an incorrect dpi label to a printer to be honest, as the barcodes and mapping commands will all be incorrect.

I loaded those drivers and don't see a difference.
The resolution isn't incorrect for that printer. That printer, by design, actually supports 150, 200, 300 & 600dpi. So the scenario is that our carton labels are designed at 200 dpi, while a different label we print for agency information and regulatory compliance is 600dpi.
This was not an issue for Bar-one. We were able to create the 600dpi label and output to the Zebra 110Xi4 as well as the 200dpi label. When we print the 200dpi label then we change the setting in the printer to "Format Convert = 200->600" and it would print a 200 dpi label on the printer correctly.
I don't know why the printer would support it and the driver wouldn't. I have next to the latest firmware on the printer as well.

Peter,
I actually corrected my own problem and it was related to the driver configuration.
You must open the "Driver Properties", then "Tools", then "Driver Options" button. Once, you open that then click on the "Printer Specifications" Tab. You will need to "Check" the "Override Manufacturer Defaults" box and then change your X & Y resolution to 203.
It's a little more meticulous than how it was with Bar-one, but that should allow me to use ONLY 1 license to print both labels to my Zebra 110Xi4(600dpi) printer.
I appreciate you trying to figure it out.
Thanks Ryan

That printer, by design, actually supports 150, 200, 300 & 600dpi >>> Yes but only if you have the correct model/printhead fitted. What you are effectively doing is printing labels out of the spec for the printer by forcing it to print at the wrong resolution for the head of the machine. If you were to create the labels at the correct resolution there would be very little difference in the printed item other than a slight change in the length of the barcode, depending in what X dimension it is printed at.
Glad you managed to get it sorted, sorry I guess my original instructions must have been a bit unclear as those were the exact settings I suggested you try and adjust.

Pete,
Yes, you were correct in your original message. I apologize for not reading it more closely. =) I got it in my head that you meant changing the resolution under "Administer" then "Advanced Printer and Driver Setup" where it displays the resolution supported by the printer. The override option there doesn't allow you to change the resolution, but you could mess with the dot size.
The location you told me in the first place was the correct answer I was looking for. As far as the correct resolutions for the printer the option to print 150, 200, 300 & 600 are applicable to my particular printer. It is an option in the printer menu, however the driver doesn't give you the option to print anything other than 600dpi without changing the Printer Specs as you mentioned above.
Regardless, I'm able to change the specs on the printer thru the driver and change the format setting in the printer to support the required 200dpi setting for the label.
Thanks again for your help

Hi Ryan/Pete,
I have one label that prints correctly on 300dpi but does not on 200dpi how can we design labels in particular with resolution.
is there any option for selecting resolution(dpi) while designing labels.??
Please let me know it will be very helpful

"is there any option for selecting resolution(dpi) while designing labels.??"
Yes use the correct resolution printer driver to create the labels
