Installing and Setting Up the BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central
Overview
The BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plug-in for Business Central
that provides a dedicated, user-configurable solution to integrate the BarTender world-class print
engine directly into Business Central.
This guide will teach you how to install the BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central, connect it to BarTender Cloud, and configure all the necessary settings to get you ready to print.

Information
To use the BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central, you must be running the following applications:
- BarTender Cloud with the Automation subscription plan
- Dynamics 365 Business Central Cloud
Installing the Plug-In
To install the BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central, use one of the following methods:
- In the Microsoft AppSource store, search for BarTender, and then click to download and
install the plug-in. - In Business Central, enter BarTender in the search box, click BarTender Connector under
Get from Microsoft AppSource, and then click to download and install the plug-in.
Preparing BarTender Cloud
Before you connect the BarTender Print Connector, there are some steps you need to take within BarTender Cloud:
- Create a BarTender Cloud account for use with the BarTender Print Connector. This should not be an existing user account, but an account created specifically for this purpose.
- Configure the account you created for password-based access and register the BarTender Print Connector with BarTender Cloud. This will allow Business Central access to your BarTender Cloud tenant space. See BarTender Cloud REST API Authentication Using Password-Based OAuth for instructions on how to do this.
Connecting to BarTender Cloud
To connect Business Central to BarTender Cloud and sync the data libraries, follow these steps:
- In Business Central, click the search icon in the top right corner, and then enter BarTender in
the search box. - Under Go to Pages and Tasks, click BarTender Setup.
- On the BarTender Setup page, configure the following settings:

Root URL: Enter the base URL of your BarTender Cloud tenant if it is not already
specified. You can obtain the URL by logging in to BarTender Cloud and copying it from
the address bar in your browser. For example, the base URL resembles one of the following:- https://am1.bartendercloud.com
- https://eu1.bartendercloud.com
- https://ap1.bartendercloud.com
- Application ID: Enter your BarTender Cloud application ID. You can find it in Manage Cloud Account > BarTender Cloud API by clicking on the verticle ellipsis icon the the right of the registered BarTender Print Connector and selecting View ID & Secret.
- Username: Enter your BarTender Cloud user name.
- Password: Enter your BarTender Cloud password.

Print Timeout: Optionally, configure the number of seconds that you want to elapse
before a BarTender print job times out. For example, you might want to lengthen the
print timeout period if you find that some print jobs take longer than expected to
complete.

Root URL: Enter the base URL of your BarTender Cloud tenant if it is not already
- Click Test Connection to verify that the connection information is correct.
- Click Sync Libraries to sync your BarTender Cloud printer, label template, and template data field data with Business Central. Any labels that you want to use need to already be present and configured in BarTender Cloud for them to be imported by Business Central. See Creating a BarTender Document Using the Template Assistant in BarTender Cloud for more details.
- Click the Back button to exit the BarTender Setup page.
Configuring Template Mappings
Before you can print to BarTender Cloud from Business Central, you must configure template
mappings to link the source tables and database fields in Business Central to the target fields in your
BarTender label template.
To do this, follow these steps:
- In Business Central, click the search icon in the top right corner, and then enter BarTender in
the search box. - Under Go to Pages and Tasks, click BarTender Template Mappings.
- Click New.
- In the General area, configure the following settings:
- Source Table ID: Use the dropdown menu to select the ID of the Business Central table that you want. Your selection will populate into the Source Table Name field.
- Template Name: Select the name of the BarTender document template that you want.

Printer: Select the printer that you want to send the print job to. If you select PDF, you
must configure the following additional settings:
- PDF Print File Name: Enter a name for the saved PDF file.
- Description: Enter a description for the mapping. Keep in mind that this description is displayed to users at print time.
There are additional options that you can enable in the Printer Settings section, both of which are self-explanatory:
- Close Document After Print
- Save After Print
Field Mapping
- In the Field Mapping area of the BarTender Template Mapping page, map fields from the
selected source table to the BarTender template fields by configuring the following settings:-
Source Field No.: Enter the ID of the source field to be mapped from. To do this, click the ellipsis
to display the Fields Lookup page, and then select the field that you want. - Target Field Name: Select the name of the target field to be mapped to.

To add more mappings, click the next row and repeat this step to configure additional source
and target fields.
- Click the Back button to close the BarTender Template Mapping page. Your template will now be present on the list of ready-to-print labels.
