Upgrading in BarTender 2019

I purchased a new product key code

If you have purchased a product key code, you'll need to deactivate the current key code and activate the new one. Please follow these guides to get your new license up and running:

I upgraded my key and have internet access

Unlike with previous versions, the upgrade can applied to your current key code instead of receiving a new upgrade key code. The license information will update automatically once it communicates with our activation servers. The easiest means to trigger this is to restart the computer or server.

If you find that the license information isn't updating automatically, you can do the following to manually update the license information:

  • Open the Administration Console on a computer or with a user that has permissions to work with the license.
  • Select Licensing from the left-hand menu
  • When the license list populates, right click on the upgraded license.
  • Select "Refresh License"

Your license information should now be refreshed.

I upgraded my key but have a closed network

If you have upgraded your product key code but are on a closed network with no outside internet access, you'll need to deactivate the current key code and activate the same one. Please follow these guides to get your new license up and running:

Upgrading in BarTender 2016 and earlier

Overview

Upgrading the printer count only requires deactivating and reactivating the Seagull License Server with the upgraded product key code.  Deactivating and reactivating the BarTender client will change the information in Help > About to reflect the new printer count.

 

Locate Seagull License Server

In order to upgrade your license you first must locate where the Seagull License Server is installed on your network. Once you have physically moved or remote desktop to the machine hosting the Seagull License Server, open the application.

Deactivate and Reactivate Seagull License Server

  1. First, follow these steps detailed here to deactivate your Seagull License Server: How to Deactivate BarTender
  2. In the Seagull License Server main window select Help > Activate This Software.

The activation Wizard will now launch again. This time the only available option will be “Activate BarTender Suite (Product Key Code Required).

  1. Click Next.

You will then be prompted for your Product Key Code.

  1. Enter in the Product Key Code you received by email for your upgraded printer count.
  2. Read the Activation Policy and check the box "I Agree" in order to proceed.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the Country where the Seagull License Server will be activated.
  5. Click Next.

The next window will advise you about a working internet connection. If you do not have a working internet connection, please see this help article on alternate means to activate your software.

  1. Click Next.
  2. Click Finish.

Your Seagull License Server Maximum Printer Count should now show an updated amount with the license you have purchased:

You should have now completed your activation of the Seagull License Server with an upgraded printer count.
