How to Update Your License Server to BarTender 11.4
Overview
With the release of BarTender 11.4, the way your BarTender License Server behaves is changing. If you wish to utilize BarTender 11.4 anywhere in your BarTender setup, your License Server must also be version 11.4.
This means that any 11.4 clients in your setup cannot use a BarTender 2019, 2021, or 2022 License Server. However, your BarTender 2019-2022 clients are compatible with the 11.4 License Server.
If you do not update your License Server, you cannot print using your new BarTender 11.4 client(s).
This article will teach you the recommended procedure for updating your BarTender License Server when implementing BarTender 11.4. You're also in the right place if you've encountered BarTender: Error 3403. See below for instructions to resolve the error.

Locating Your License Server
The first step is to locate your License Server within your BarTender setup.
If you only use BarTender on one computer, this computer is also your License Server. If you use BarTender on multiple computers and are not sure which computer is the License Server, you can locate it using Administration Console:
- Open Administration Console and click on Licensing in the left-hand toolbar.
- You will see the Name and IP Address of your License Server under Current License Server.
Updating Your License Server to BarTender 11.4
Once you are ready to update to 11.4, follow this procedure to prevent interruptions to printing and resolve error 3403.
- Make sure you are on the computer hosting your License Server. See the section above for instructions on determining the right location.
- Uninstall your existing BarTender Suite.
- Install the BarTender 11.4 Suite.
For normal online activation, you simply need to refresh your license after installation is complete:
- Open Administration Console and click on Licensing in the left-hand toolbar.
- Right-click the entry under Current License and select Refresh License.
For offline activation, you must deactivate and then re-activate your license.
License Server Redundancy
BarTender's 11.4 License Server behavior also applies to any License Servers connected to provide License Server Redundancy. If you wish to use BarTender 11.4 in your setup, you must update all License Servers connected to each other in a Backup or Triad relationship.
