Symptom

You get the following error message in BarTender:

BarTender: Error Message 6239

The select Records dialog cannot be shown due to the following:

• BarTender
• Database connection

Fix

This message typically happens when BarTender can't properly connect to the database that you're trying to use. You should check the connection to your database to make sure that BarTender can access it. For more information on connecting to a database in BarTender, see Getting Started with Database Connections.

If you're using Microsoft Excel as your database, the most common cause of this error is that there is a mismatch in the architecture between BarTender and Microsoft Office.
