Symptom

You have a cell within Excel that has a lot of written data in it. However, not all of it is showing up when you connect it to BarTender. It seems like the data is cut off in a multi-line text object. What is happening?

Environment

BarTender 2016, all Excel databases

BarTender 2019 and later when connecting to an older Excel format (.xls instead of .xlsx)

Fix/Answer

Most likely, the issue is that the cell within the Excel spreadsheet has more than 255 characters. Though you may be able to read this data nicely within the Excel file, when another application (such as BarTender) attempts to read that cell, Excel will only provide the first 255 characters.
