Symptom

When installing BarTender, you encounter the following Windows error:

BarTender 2016 and later.

Solution

This issue usually occurs because BarTender is either trying to write to a location that it does not have permission to access or to a folder that no longer exists. This could be due to the location being on a shared drive or on a drive that the computer cannot see anymore.  

1. Check the folder BarTender is attempting to install to actually exists. If it does not, change the installation location to a folder that does exist.
2. If the installation folder appears to be valid, try logging on with a Windows user account that has Administrator permissions.
3. If the folder is located on the local computer, this user account will only need local Administrator rights. If the folder is located in a non-local location (somewhere else over the network), then the user account will need Windows domain access rights to that location.
