 What is License Server Redundancy?

If you wish to use BarTender 11.4 in your setup, you must update all License Servers connected to each other in a Backup or Triad relationship. See How to Update Your License Server to BarTender 11.4 for more details.

This new feature introduced in BarTender 2021 allows you to have redundant and backup License Servers. If your main License Server goes down for any reason, this feature will allow you to continue printing without interruption while waiting for it to come back online.

There are 2 types of License Redundancy: a Triad and a Backup Relationship.

  • A Triad Relationship allows the individual license to be mirrored across 3 separate servers. If your main License Server goes down, the client installs will switch to one of the mirrored licenses to continue printing. Once the main server is back online, the client installs will switch back automatically.
  • A Backup Relationship utilizes a second license, separate from your main license, stored on a second License Server. When you set the relationship, if the main server goes down, the client installs will automatically move to the second license and continue printing. Once the main License Server is back online, the client installs will automatically move back to the main server.
