How to Configure Maintenance for the BarTender System Database
Overview
The BarTender System Database can be configured to automatically perform maintenance on a scheduled basis. Maintenance will delete records like print logs and print job information older than the specified age in days/weeks/months. Deleted records can be saved as backup (.bak) files that can be restored at a later time. It will also optimize the performance and index the system database.
Applicable to
BarTender 2019 and later.
Information
- Open the BarTender Administration Console.
- Navigate to the System Database -> Maintenance section.
- Configure the Schedule and Actions sections as necessary.
-
Enable scheduled database maintenance - Database maintenance can be scheduled to repeatedly run at a specified time daily or once a week on a specified day.
This generally should be scheduled during a defined maintenance period or when system database and printing activity is low.
- Database Maintenance will delete records older than - Here we can specify the maximum age for logged print jobs in Days, Weeks, or Months. All jobs older than this value will be deleted, and all jobs newer than this value will be retained.
-
Archive deleted records - Jobs that have been deleted by Database Maintenance can be saved in a backup (.bak) file to the folder path specified here. The .bak file can be used to restore your database in the Administrative Tasks menu.
You cannot, however, use and restore these .bak files to overwrite a different instance of an existing system database. They can only be restored with the same system database instance that the backup was generated from. BarTender does not manage these files after they are saved to this folder. Depending on logging options, print volume, logging settings, and time, the accumulation of these files can consume significant storage space.
