Database alias no longer works after update from BarTender 10.1 and earlier
Symptoms
After upgrading from BarTender 10.1, a label with a database using an alias may either drop the alias or simply rename the database connection entirely. When this happens, the database fields placed on the label may break and you may receive database field errors, particularly Error #3201: this database field was not found.
Environment
BarTender 2016 and later
Solution
This feature has been deprecated. When updating to a more recent version, you have a few options of what you can use to connect to your database
- Use the new feature Named Database Connections to create a reusable database connection
- Reconnect the database fields to stop Error #3201 from occurring
Internal only information
According to BUG-1534, this feature is no longer available after the database dialog was completely redone in BarTender 2016. There are no plans to return database aliasing as there are newer features which essentially replace it.
