Hi @ all,

some feature I do really miss, is selecting the col and row of the start position.

This is already a feature, for a very long time now, in the "Page Setup" dialog under the "Printing Order" tab.

Sorry to tag in on this, but are there any plans to open that print order up a bit more?  Granted, it's pretty good now, but what we are looking to do is have a bit more flexibility with printing order.  For example, we'd like the ability to go inverse vertical (or whatever you may call it.) Since the things we make are done on a press it's a big deal for us to have the head waste time moving from the bottom to the top, print a column, move bottom to the top, print a column, etc. Imagine we are printing sheets of a magazine, they have to be in order which is why we're looking to accomplish this.

For example, see the two attachments.  One is the current option (current.jpg)[attachment=1427:Current.jpg] and the method we are trying to use (dreamstate.txt.)[attachment=1428:dreamstate.txt]  Perhaps there is another way to solve this as we're racking our brains and would be open to a creative solution.  We are currently exploring some way of maybe vbscripting a change to the order of the data to facilitate this.

Thanks!

You actually didn't get the point of my inquiry.

If people do print using the Printer Station, then I have to check "Select start position on printing" (or however this is calles in english). You can say "Start at label N° 345" but you can not say: Start at Row 20 and Column 1.

The point is, that you'll have to calculate to start at row 20. E.g. the label sheet has 5 cols, then N° 345 would be something like 144 \ 5 = 68 row, 5th label.

This is way too complicated for usual people with no affection to computers that are simply try to read "aaa right, my label says me, that the next row where I can print is 23". Avery Zweckform Label Software does this and it works perfect.

kevin29: Your requirement for a "snaking" print order will need a feature request.  I'll get one submitted for you.  You could probably kludge a workaround, particularly if you control BarTender via automation.  Much depends on what on the label in terms of variable data.  VB script might also be of use here, but it might get complex.

Nils: What version of BarTender are you using?  With v10.1 using Print Station on a document that is prompting for the start print position the user will see something like the below dialog when selecting the start label to print.  To satisfy your request, in a very simple manner, would putting a text label of the row/column of the currently selected starting label suffice?

Hi Ian,

thx for your reply. The selection you showed in the screenshot above is a quite simple method of selecting the start position and works absolutely fine with bigger labels. Unfortunately, we use a lot of idento and there you have around 200 Labels on one sheet. Thus it's quite a deal to select the right label start position.

Therefore a simple label displaying the selected row/col would also help a lot. Then people might simply find the right pos. by experiment.

Nils: I agree, which is why I've submitted an official feature request on your behalf to development.
