Shared System Database

I have bartender 10.1 SR4 Automation.  I want to be able to share a global data field for serialization across more than one work station.  It would appear that this would require sharing a single system database among the workstations.   Is this possible with Automation or do I need to have the Enterprise edition?

  That requires Enterprise Automation edition, as shared system database (or connect to remote system database) requires Enterprise Automation edition.
