I want to allow a user to use a check box to select whether or not to print an image.  How would I do this?

When you say "user", I assume you mean print operator and therefore the check box would be on the data entry form at print time?  Assuming you have a recent version of BarTender you can achieve this by the following means:

1. Create a named data source.  Give it a name like: btPrintImage

2. Create a check box data entry control on the form, link it to your newly created named data source, and set the ticked value to True, and the unticked value to false.

3. In the picture object properties select the top node of the settings tree and open the properties for the "Print When" item.  Choose the "Conditionally based on data source" item selecting the named data source you created and then the "IsTrue" criteria value.

Job done!
