When transitioning a BarTender document to be used with a different printer make and model than the one used to design the label, the following has to be considered:

    1. Does the new printer support all the internal printer fonts used with the original printer make and model? In your case not, because you're changing printer brand.
    2. The key thing to avoid is page transition problems. This can e.g. happen when going from a laser to a thermal printer, and/or vice versa. It can also happen when printing a label that was designed for a 6" wide printer to a 4" wide printer. Be aware as well of the maximum print width for each printer.

You're having some of these symptons and the reason for it has been explained above. I'm not sure we can do something to avoid having to readjust your labels. You could try including some of the original BarTender documents (.btw) to this topic (by making use of the "More Reply Options" button) and how these labels now display and print when using the Zebra printers instead.

We have this same problem.  Bartender decides to switch to the default printer if it can't find the printer that the labels was designed for.  We need Bartender to prompt the user to find the correct printer before reformatting for another printer.  How do we do that?

    This is currently defined behaviour.

We've a feature request in our system to be able to set a BarTender default printer different from the Windows default printer. If this feature would make it into a future BarTender version, setting this BarTender default printer should help you.

    Hi Domingo.

If the the designed printer can`t be found , bartender engine will transfer to print to the default printer in template automatically, right ?

    We have 2 problems below.

    1. If the default printer is still can`t be found, we found the bartender engine will trigger EngineStatusChangedEvent and indicate the engine status is stop.  How can we do to retry this print job after the engine stop? we need make sure the print job can be print out 100%.

    2. How can we check the designed printer can`t be found , is there any log in bartender? (we have turn on the *.txt log file)

If you're automating BarTender via a .NET SDK front-end application, you would be able to list the current printers available to this PC, compare the available printers with the printer defined in the BarTender document, and if the printer doesn't exist, give the customer the option to print to a different printer instead.

Have in mind however that the printer defined in the BarTender document and the printer you chose at print time should be pretty similar in specificacions. Important things to consider are maximum printer width, printer brand, and printer fonts supported.
