Bartender 10.1 And Idocs
Hi,
I'm currently reviewing BarTender to see if we can use it in production beside our SAP system. We would like to print labels on demand using Commander / BarTender as described in some of your white papers. I've created a basic label with one single field. This field should be populated by a field of a WMMBID02 type idoc.
The setup has been done according to your white paper (parser, default idoc file, master and fields selection, ...). Both parser and idoc files are functionnals (they are copies of idocs currently used in production by a third party software).
However, when I try to preview or print, the operation fails (error #3200, no data to print). I didn't try to open the file with VBScript (didn't find a doc about it yet). However, when I open the DB connection dialog then check the browse tab (last one) I get no record despite the fact there is one Inside the idoc.
The only flaw I experienced during the setup process is related to the idoc segment version. When I selected the highest available in BarTender (46C), it returned an error message telling the idoc segment version of the file was higher (702). So, I replaced the 46C by 702. I tried also to replace Inside the idoc file the segment version number (702) by 46C, then updated the setup accordingly. Unfortunately it failed again. After double checking the white paper, I'm unable to find a clue about what is going on except that maybe BarTender is not compatible with the idoc version our SAP system produces, even if the parser file seems to be interpreted smoothly.
Would you have any idea about this ?
Thanks
Christophe

Hello Christophe,
The Idoc File and Parser file supplied by SAP will need to be of the same version in order to be interpreted correctly. Could you attach your BarTender document, Idoc and Paser Files for me to examine, and could you also let me know which one will be the Master Segment?

Hello Domingo,
Unfortunately I can't send you the idoc as it contains confidential information (I checked that before posting the message). Regarding the version of the parser vs the idoc, I don't think the problem lays here as both files are currently being used to exchange information between SAP and a third party software. But I'm saving your advice and will double check that. I'll also ask our SAP admin to provide me an earlier version of both files to make a try. In the meantime if you have testing files of your own and if you are willing to share them with me, I'll be pleased to try them.
Thanks for your help

Hello Christophe,
You have some Idoc and Parser sample files at the below location when installing BarTender:
"C:\Users\%YourUserName%\Documents\BarTender\SAP"
Please try them out and let me know how it goes.

Hello Domingo,
Thank you for the information. I checked the directory but didn't find the files. As we use file servers instead of local directories for our documents, it seems the files you talked about failed to be copied during the install process. Could you post them in this thread ?
Thank you for your help

Sure, find the files attached. Rename the .txt file to .zip and then unzip the file.

Domingo,
I tried your files. I got the expected results, so the problem is probably on our side. Will check with our SAP admin. Feel free to close the thread. Otherwise, if I get an answer I'll post the information in case it might be useful for other BT users.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Christophe for the update.
Probably the key of the problem on your side is: "The Idoc File and Parser file supplied by SAP will need to be of the same version"

Hello Domingo,
I didn't give you feedback because we are currently working on the integration of one of our divisions Inside SAP. So we postponed this subject until late of April. Don't worry, I'll give you feedback when we will work on it again.
Regards
Christophe
