Detect When Information Is Cutoff In Fields Follow

Hi,

I have an application (currently using the .NET SDK,) that fills data into Labels.  The problem that we sometimes run into is that when the fields can not accommodate the data (by changing to a smaller font), some of the information is cut off without any warning and if nobody notices this situation, labels are printed and used not containing all of the intended information.  Is there a way to detect this situation?  If not, it would be a huge improvement to your automation SDK (either .NET or ActiveX) to flag this situation, the programs using your SDKs for automation would be come much more reliable.  Another feature that would be nice to add to Bartender is the ability to flag required fields (i.e. fields that if they do not contain data generate an error and do not print).

Regards,

Ed

Hi Ed, as of BarTender 10.1, there's no such feature in .net SDK unfortunately.

By using ActiveX automation I wonder that would be possible, detecting text box dimension after applying data (I haven't tested myself though).

see post below for ActiveX DesignObject.

We had some requests that to support DesignObject in .net SDK and hopefully that will come in future version.

Hi,

Jim, thanks for the information, we are on 10.1 so your idea might do the trick.  Shotaro, I still think that BT should have built in support for this idea in one way or another so please submit this idea to your R&D team.  Right now BT has an option not to print a label that is missing a graphic but will print a label with some of the text in a field cut off without any warning, that doesn't make sense.

Ed

Hi Ed,

Reply on this post. Off-label text had been used for annotation or temporary data etc so I wasn't really feel requirement for that, however since recent version have non printable layer or non-linked named data source, I feel you're right - there's some cases user benefit to have warning when object is not placed within printable area. I'll post a feature request for this - please comment if anyone want to have this function.

Oh, and about warning when no data entered - that's exists in Datasource > Transform > Number of Characters. Set require number of minimum character.

Hi,

Any chance this feature request was implemented in the new version of BarTender (2016)?

Have you tried the Auto Size feature of Single line text?

If the Data is longer than it would be possible to fit at 100% then it will shrink accordingly up to the

Minimum percentage you select in the Font Scale Minimum percentage you specify (You can either select or type it)

It uses the same Point Size but it shrinks the width of the characters.

Just Double Click on the Text object and then select Text Format

Auto Size Check Box (Must be Checked)

I hope this is something you will be able to use.
