Gs1 Serial Number Created From Multiple Named Data Sources
The serial numbers we generate are created from three named data sources:
- Embedded Data type clock: Set to YYMM.
- A VB Script that that increments a text file upon print: ####
- Embedded data for a suffix, which rarely changes: @
For example a serial number generated today would be 16032514C. I am trying to create a GS1 Data Matrix barcode and I have entered the three named data sources to create the serial application identifier. When I did this I noticed that a new field appeared as a data source called Data Terminator (^1). I moved the data terminator to the last data source position.
Am I doing this correctly? And is the data terminator the check digit?
Thank You,
Tom

The data terminator (FNC1 for the GS1 standard, but represented in BT via ^1 in the data source) is used to terminate variable length application identifier fields. It is not a check digit and is very much position specific and thus shouldn't be moved.
For example the AI (21) for a serial number is a variable length field. If other AI's are to follow it then you would put a data terminator after the AI (21) data field to specify the end of the field, and therefore what follows in another AI with its data field.

I realize I described the situation poorly.
When I created the serial number application identifier I linked it to the first named data source. I then added the next two data sources because all three compose the serial number. I then noticed that the ^1 was listed after the first data source. That is why i moved it to after the third data source of the serial number. I just wanted to check that this is the correct way to setup the serial number in this bar code.

Yes that sounds correct, but you only need it at all if there are other AI's to follow. If AI 21 is last in use for the barcode then simply delete the data terminator as it's not needed.

how to remove Data Terminator in gs1 barcode

panditamit: In the above situation, the data terminator would be listed as one of the data sources for the barcode object. With that being the case, simply select the data source and delete it.
