Hi Antizdoba,
Have you enabled Page verification? In Printer properties > Tools Tab > Status monitoring > Job Verification, disable [Verify page complete before sending next page] if enabled.
When you use serial(RS-232C) connection print job size for each page is too big, sending data to printer might take long time and that makes printer to wait. Try faster connection like USB or Ethernet. Or try reduce print job size, such as using Printer's font, instead of Windows TrueType font, reduce picture, etc.
    Hope that helps.

Page verification is disabled. What is the best print? One file with several pages or separate file for each page. Thanks for your help

If that's possible, use one btw format file to print multiple pages is faster to print.
You can use Database connection, serialization or identical copy to print multiple labels.

Tell me how you print labels, Do you use Automated printing from other application?
Basically, try to minimize execute / quit of BarTender application as start / close BarTender application takes some time.

Printing is the program 1s. There is a set of templates labels that are stored in xml. From the program is filled with a pattern of information. All completed labels are grouped into a single file that is sent to the printer. Control printing of the program is not possible. The print queue is filled quickly, but the queue refers to broach the 64 kb interval of 1 second. Printrer connected via cable usb. Spooler printer has a 256 KB.

When you're using other application than BarTender, it's difficult for me to advice about the program.
I personally don't have a experience with that AP5.4 printer, however the spec (USB1.1, 16MB RAM, 6ips) won't look like a slow printer.
Below is what I would try in such situation.

Ask Avery dennison support.

Check if using terminal service affect that or not.

Reset printer to factory default following printer's user guide.

Check you use the latest printer driver and the latest printer firmware.

Try other connection method like TCP/IP.

On printer properties > Port tab, enable / disable [Enable bi-directional support].

To check what data driver sent to printer, you can enable driver logging and print code logging from Printer properties > Tools tab > Logging option. (Bi-directional support must be enabled.)
To send recorded print code to printer again (for testing purpose), Tools tab > Action > Send file to printer.
