Relation Between Bi-Directional Setting On Port And Driver
Hello,
We are using the seagull driver together with Toshiba TEC printers. Lately we also started with the Toshiba EV4 printers. On this printer we experience that the last 1 o2 labels are not printed when bi-directional support is on for the used port. When we set bi-directional support off all labels in a job are printed. We did not experience this before with the Toshiba SX5 printers.
The problem is that when we set bi-directional support on the port off then also bi-directional support on the driver (for all printers on the server)is set to off. Then it is also not possible anymore to work with the configuration sharing option of the driver. Why is there a relation between the port setting (as far as I know for communication between port and printer) and the driver setting (as far as I know for communication between driver and client software).
Thanks in advance,

Have you tried just disabling the status monitor for the printer driver instead? Find this under the "Tools" tab of the driver.
The bi-directional setting in the "Network Settings" tab refers to bi-di communication between server/client driver installs including config sharing.
The bi-directional setting under the "Ports" tab enables the whole language monitor infrastructure for the entire driver. A Windows or printer spooler service restart is needed for any change to take effect. Disabling this removes any feature that makes use of this infrastructure. This includes server/client bi-di communications, status monitoring, print job recording etc...0 -

Thanks for the info.
Regarding the bi-directional settings info. The description is indeed how we experience it. I only would have expect that a setting on the ports tab is related to the specific queue and not to the driver as a whole.
Regarding the status Monitor.
- I see on the Extra tab on the printerqueue a button "Statusmonitoring". In the screen after this I have a tab Status on which the "Check of pinterstatus" is set to Off.
- I see on the Extra tab on the printequeue a button "Driver options". In the next screen I only see Maintenance, Networksettings, regional options and Printerspecifications. Nothing here related to status monitoring.
So I don't see a real Tools tab. Has this been added recently (I am looking to a verson of January 2011) or am I not looking at the right location or is it the Status tab ?0 -

Try download and install the latest driver for TEC from here.

From printer properties, when port setting bi-directional support is enabled, on tools tab [Status monitoring] button is shown.

Sounds like you may not be actually using the Seagull driver (I don't think it has an Extras tab). I'd take Shotaro's advice and make sure that you have installed the latest Seagull driver from the website.0 -
With the printer user interface in the Dutch language the "Tools" tab is translated as "Extras".
You might like to know that we have just released v7.3 of our printer drivers to go along with our new BarTender release. I would suggest that you download and upgrade the printer driver to what is now the latest version and then get back to us.

Hello,
It took some time but we now have installed the latest version of the driver (builddate 2/26/2012). Unfortunately we still have the same problem with the EV4 printer (last label is not printed when bi-directional is ON). We have also Toshiba SX5 SV4 and EX4 printers but never experienced this problem.
Any other options ?0 -

Have you set Status monitoring to [Disabled], and still have the same issue?
Also, in Printer Properties > Advanced tab, check or uncheck [Enable Advanced Print Features] - which changes spooling method and sometimes would affect result.0
