Printing To Margen Markem Smartdate X40
Hi, we are planning to use bartender to use a margen marken smartdatex40 printer.
I have checked out bartender has that printer driver.
My question is how would it be the way I send labels to print,
I mean, nowadays we use the printer software to send a label to it with variable fields (Lot No., Expiration date...) then our personnel at production plant uses the printer lcd to select the proper label, and fills in those variable fields, and then start printing.
My doubt is: how this all should be done with bartender.
When I hit print to this SmartDatex40 printer using bartender Drives, does bartender sends the label with all codes to the printer?
What does the employee have to do now?
He checks or selects the label in the SmartDatex40 LCD?
My general question is how bartender works with this type of printer?
Thank u

Is this one of those in-line production printers? I've never used it myself, but I believe the "print job" gets loaded into the printer, from where the print operator can then call off the print jobs as they would normally do. In other words, not immediate printing like you have with a regular thermal label printer such as those offered by Zebra, but rather printing in the style in which these printers are ordinarily used. I suggest you try it out using the printer driver and a Trial of BarTender if needed and see how you get on.

I have tried that but unfortunately windows print spooler kicked me out:
Our IT technician installed your Marken Imajen Smartdate x 40 printer drivers on my pc.
From my PC, from bartender, when I choose that printer, bartender shows printer is ready (showing IP port is correct).
Then I hit print in bartender (of course, printer is ON) and get an error message from windows print spooler (just a plain error: Error while printing in Smartdate x 40).
For testing purposes I installed in my PC, SmartDate x 40 label software (called COLOS) and send a label to the printer. Printer Response was OK, label was properly "laid" in printer buffer, ready to be chosen in order to print.
Any clues how to proceed?
Anyone prints in SmartDate x 40 from Bartender?

I suggest you contact support if no one else can help. I've never used one of these printers myself, so my knowledge on them is limited.

Hello Astur,
Were you able to solve your issue and print to the X40 printer using Bartender ? We are having the same issue with a recently purchased X60 combo 128mm. Not sure if Colos is the only software that can be used ?
thanks

The TCP/IP port used by the XC60 for data is not he standard 9100 RAW port and so you need to change this in the driver. I cant remember what it was (it is in the manual somewhere) but I think it was either port 20000 or 40000.

hello, is there update to this topic? We used to use bartender to print on demand labels. But we want to use it to customize printing to inline TTO printer. We have not selected which printer but most probably one of the markem printers above too. Unsure how it would work though on inline systems to flexible packaging roll.

As my post above adjusting the port used from the Windows standard 9100 Raw port fixed the communication error we encountered and we were successfully printing from BarTender.
Sorry I do not have the printer manual to hand and so cannot remember what the port should be
