BarTender uses its own customer file->open dialog. In certain situations with special windows directories, you may need to switch to the classic Windows dialog.

You can switch to using the classic Windows file->open dialog by changing the following registry key value and doing the following (Do note changing this option, you will not be able to save formats to Librarian directly in BarTender) :

The registry key is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Seagull Scientific\Librarian\File Dialog

 Name = Use Windows Dialog

  Type = REG_DWORD

  Data = 0x00000001 (1)

To change BarTender to use the Windows file dialog:

1. Make sure that BarTender is closed.

2. Launch the Registry Editor in Windows by using the keystroke <Windows Key> + R and typing 'regedit' in the resulting window.  You can also use the Run or Search dialogs from the Start menu in Windows, then enter 'regedit' in that window.

3. Once in the Registry, navigate to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Seagull Scientific\Librarian\File Dialog  (if you don't see a folder called Librarian under Seagull Scientific create it and then create the File Dialog folder inside of it by right-clicking and hit 'new folder'.)

4. While you are in the File Dialog Folder, Right-click in the window to the right, select 'New', then 'DWORD (32 bit) Value'.  Name it 'Use Windows Dialog'.  Note that registry keys are case sensitive.

5. Right Click on “Use Windows Dialog” and select Modify

6. Leave the Hexadecimal data radio button selected and change the value from 0 to 1. Click OK.

7. Re open BarTender and the file dialog will be using the Windows file dialog.

To revert back, change the registry value back to 0.

Hi Jasper

I have just stumbled across this feed as I have exactly the same problem with our V7.75. I have tried the above solution in this version but still does not work. We have been using this version for along time as it does everything we require it to do. The problem is the PC has died and I have now had to install the software on a Windows 10 PC. I have activated the software and everything appears to be functioning fine apart from the same problem when trying to open or save a file. If I go to the original label on our network it opens fine.

This suggests to me that the only issue is the software is looking for a file location that does not exist.

Can you please urgently help?
