SQL Server connection setup wizard - cant enter database name
Hi beginner question here. I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server 2019 database on the local machine.
In the database setup wizard I've entered the Server name (which did not autocomplete btw, the drop down box made me wonder if it was supposed to autocomplete after auto-detecting the SQL servers running using the Windows SQL server service) and am now trying to enter the database name.
The database entry box however is just a drop down box and would not allow me to manually type the name of the database. Is the intention of the software as described above? That the SQL server service on windows would allow the databases to be read from the server?
Looking at my SQL Server configuration manager both the SQL Server and SQL Server browser are running although the SQL server agent is stopped. My understanding is that the SQL server agent is only used for scheduled tasks which I don't think apply here. Also I have specified to use Windows Authentication which is the same as the server.
Are there any troubleshooting tips or resources here that could be helpful here? Thanks
