Deploy without SQL Compact Edition Seguir

Hi,

I've got the Bartender 2016 Enterprise Edition.   What is the best way to deploy without installing the Microsoft SQL Compact edition on each workstation?  I've got the system database running on a full SQL server so I don't need the SQL compact installed on each workstation.  I've read through the Silent Install white paper, but didn't see a way to prevent the SQL CE from installing.

When deploying, is it also possible to set the SQL server and user for connecting?

Thanks,

Chris

Hello,

There is no way to prevent these components from Installing along with BarTender as they are needed by the software. SQL CE is not SQL Server, or SQL Express. It does not interfere, or interact with, those at all. It is a set of libraries that enables accessing a file using relational database methods, it is a programming tool.

If your concern is that it will do something to your existing SQL server, there is nothing to worry about as it does not install a SQL database, nor does it touch any existing SQL Server installation.

Hope this information helps, if you have other issues or concerns let us know.

Hi,

Thanks for the info about the compact edition. I remember seeing that in the forums, It's been a bit of time since I last worked on setting up a deployment for Bartender and I must have forgot that the compact edition is needed.  What I really need is a way to keep SQL express from installing when I run the silent install.  Here is my command line:

BT2016_R3_3094_Full_x64.exe /L"1033" /v"/qb ProductLanguage=1033 EDITION=EA ADDLOCAL=BarTender,PrintStation,PrinterMaestro SLS_PRIMARY=SLSVR ACCOUNT_NAME_FULL=Domain\BarTenderService ACCOUNT_PASSWORD=XXXXXX /L*v C:\bartender_install.log"

I've got a full SQL 2012 Server for the system database,  I'd like the workstations to connect to that instead of installing SQL express on each workstation.  I've tried various combinations of the above, but it always installs SQL express on the workstation.  I've got the SystemDatabaseWizard command line working to connect to SQL server for each workstation, just need a way to keep sql express from installing.

If I remove the EDITION parameter, I can get it to install without SQL Express, but I haven't figured out a way to install the SystemDatabaseWizard so I can set the system database to my SQL 2012 server.  If I add AdministrationConsole to be installed, I get error 2753 that 'batchmaker.exe' is not marked for installation.  If I add batchmaker to be installed, I get error 2753, file 'slsrv.exe' is not marked for installation.  I don't see an option to install the license service, which I wouldn't want to install on each workstation.

Thanks in advance!

We recently released BarTender 2016 R4 that has various improvements around installation and the BarTender system database connection setup. In R4, it should no longer try to automatically install a SQL Server 2012 Express instance for the system database during silent install. You may find the latest service release here.

It is recommended to use the BarTender system database command line parameters that is separate for either silently installing a local instance of SQL Server or connecting to an already existing SQL Server for the BarTender system database. You can find more information on our BarTender system database command line parameters in our BarTender help here.
