choosing a prefix when printing
Hi. We are using bartender to reprint poor quality laboratory labels received from wards. There is a primary lab number (9 digits) and each sample has a 2 digit prefix. The label connects to an excel created every few minutes with the patient details on and populates the demographics.
One label works well as we can set the prefix
Unfortunately we have multiple sample types and end up with 9 different versions
I would like to be able to scan in the lab number (or type depending on how and the barcode is) and then pick which of the prefixes I want, in an ideal world it would be possible to select multiple ones, either from a list (using shift perhaps) or populated manually and separated by a comma (like when printing a document and you select which pages to print)

If the labels are identical in every other way then you could just create one label that allows you scan the code (that does the database lookup) and then allows you to select the prefix to use from a dropdown list entry box
This would give you something like this at print time

i had tried this but could never find how to link the chosen prefix to the barcode

You need to add a separate substring to your barcode via the option ringed below. Each substring can come from different sources and so in your instance the prefix would be an Embedded Data field and the second string from the database. The inputs on the Data Entry form, shown previously will need to be "linked" to these to different sub-strings.
