Upgrade to latest SQL express
SQL express 2014 that comes with our Bartender 2021 installations is in extended support and soon to be out of support entirely. Our LIMS installation that depends on bartender 2021 is not compatible with bartender 2022.
Question is: Can we upgrade the sql express server that runs the bartender system database to the latest version (sql express 2022) without issues?

It is indeed possible to use SQL Server Express 2022 as the BarTender System Database.
In order to change the system database (if it does not automatically update), you can open Administration Console, click on "System Database" and go through the database wizard to customize a connection to the database.

To what version can bartender 2022 with sql 2019 (outdated and critical warnings on VM in Azure) be updated? Is sql express the license type?

Someone just asked something similar to this recently, but after a quick scan I can seem to see it now but I did find this one
BarTender 2022 ships with SQL Express 2019 but you can connect/configure the System Database to use a different version of SQL , for all revisions as far as I am aware

In Azure I see indeed sql express. Is it possible to disconnect the sql server and deinstall it so that no maintenance is required?
