Cannot create on remote SQL Server, need different license
I want to move my BarTender system database to a different SQL server. Today I have database on the remote server VI8SrvDBA004. Bartender is installed on a server called Abby. I want to move the system database to a remote server called Dani.
But when using the System Database Wizard to create a new database on Dani the Wizard tells me “Cannot create on remote SQL Server, need different license”. I have Automation. Error message tells me I need Enterprise.
But since I have the database on a remote SQL Server today, why not let me create the database on a different remote server? Has the licensing permissions for remote database server changed? Am I just unlucky to be caught by the change in the Automation license.

The System Database in the Automation edition needs to be a local instance on the same PC as BarTender itself. To allow remote connections to a System Database from one or multiple PCs then you need the Enterprise edtion.
If you check the settings on Abby you may find that it is in fact connecting to a local System Database and not a remote one.
The SQL database that contains the data used on a label is another matter and that is not the System Database as far as BarTender is concerned. If this is what you want to move then you will need to use the Database Connection Wizard in the the label itself (or if you have made it a Named Source, Database Connections in Administration Console)

Well, somehow I did get the db to be running on a remote server (as the pic below shows). The db connection has always been slow, also crashed a lot when I did searches for stuff long ago.
There's nothing helpful in the config.xml either, just a string under Cipher.
But I'll need a different db solution. I guess a local SQL Express on Abby then is the way to go0
