Printing different number of copies on each template

Assuming it is always X Inner plus one Outer then you could add a second template to the label with the outer details on it but in the Page setup make this an end of job template so that the number of copies value does not effect this.

So with 4 labels selected to print, you would get, all printed at the same time on the same printer:

    Hi Peter,

The number of inner is not a set number, as it can be 2, 4 or 6.

Also, is there a way to print first all the inner and then all the outer labels?

So, if, for example, it has 2 inner labels it will first print 200 inner copies and then 100 outer copies. Is it possible to manually select the number of copies for each template separately?

    Thank you.

You would need to create a second print command for that, although you could possibly configure an action that runs when you print the X inners to print the required Y outer copies.

    Hi Peter,

I am not familiar with the Process Builder and after having watched a couple of videos I am still not sure how to use it.

When clicking on actions and browse the .btw file we use that it is connected to an access database, the below error pops out.

How do i create a second print command? Can i link one command print to print from template 1 and the second command print to print on template 2?

    Thank you.

I wasn't suggesting Process Builder I was suggesting using an Action from the Data Entry Form of the 1st label.

    Hi Peter,

I have tried using the Action from the Data Entry Form but I am not sure how to do this. Is there any tutorial on how to create a second print command as you suggested or how to use the action from the data entry form? I haven't used this one before and I don't know how it works.

    Thank you.

    Hi Bram,

To show the scenario Georgios suggested, you would need 3 bartender files.

    1. Trigger File: In this file you would have the record selection and input the copies required for both Inner and Outer Labels

    2. Inner Label: This contains no database connection or forms, just named data sources alligning with the access database

    3. Outer Label: This too is similar, you would have only the design of the outer label template with only named data sources

    Trigger file

This file will have the database connection to access db. You would also need all the fields correspnding to the inner and outer labels to have matching named data sources. In the example, i have 3 db fields and 2 embedded fields which will hold the copies required for inner and outer labels.

The is the data entry form of the trigger file. You can enter in the required copies for inner and outer labels seperatly.

We would then need to setup form actions on the trigger file, but first we need to make sure the Inner and outer labels are setup

    Inner/Outer Labels

These labels will be used by the trigger label and should contain named data sources for all the objects required. Make sure the names match whats on the trigger label. As you can see below, this doesnt have any db connection, just embedded text fields with named data sources created for each one.

    Trigger Label Form Actions

Under the trigger file, Add 2 actions (Print Document) under the form level actions>Forms Closed. Select the Inner/Outer document and make sure to Import Document Settings

Under the Print Option You can select the defulat printer to print from and set the Copies with the variable/named data source. In this case, i selected the Named Data source (NDS) and form entry field, InnerCopies.

Under Named Data Sources Tab, Make sure the Values are appended with the matching NDS.

Make sure to save and now when you print from the triggger file, you can control how many copies print for each inner/outer file. This is just one way to do this, you could also setup a bartender process file too. But this should get the the required end result.

    Hope this helps!

I was thinking something slightly simpler than that and adding an action to the Inner label to print the Outer label afterwards.

    This would be:

    • Create the inner label linked to the database as normal but add onto the label, but to the side and so outside of the printed area entry fields for any manual data required at print time for Outer. These should be named data sources, set via the button showed below

    • The outer manual fields should be added to the Data Entry form again as shown above by Raj
    • The action to print the Outer can be set us as above setting the Outer copies and any other manual fields plus including the database lookup/Query Prompts on the adjacent tab.

The results would be the same but one less screen to config and you only need to add a couple of Named Data Sources
