    Hi Puck,

The basic edition of BarTender does not allow you to connect to any databases. To do that, you will need the Professional edition.

thanks Jim! So I'm evaluating the trial version but I believe it is the enterprise automation edition. With the basic edition am I able to create COMPLETELY custom labels? Am I limited as to wher e want text, barcodes, to go???

There is no limitation on *where* you put data on a basic layout. Most of the limitation is in the data. Meaning you can't link to a database, do custom serialization (but can do basic serialization), etc. You can find the comparison chart here: http://www.seagullscientific.com/aspx/bar-code-label-software-features.aspx
