Silent Install Of Bartender 10Sr2
What I've done;
Extracted bartender.msi from the downloadable EXE.
Installing using the following:
msiexec.exe /i BarTender.msi PKC=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX EDITION=A REMOVE=BatchMaker,Commander,HistoryExplorer,Librarian,ReprintConsole,SecurityCenter,SystemDatabase,WPS /q
This works fine when executed as a logged in administrator from the command line.
However, when installing via Microsoft SCCM and the installation is performed by LOCAL SYSTEM, the installation fails.
Cannot get anything relevant from the MSI logs either, except for the 1603 error message.
MSI (s) (88:F0) [15:13:27:225]: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
Haven't faced these problems with previous versions..

The Librarian and WPS features are not part of the Automation edition. If you delete these from the command line does it help? 0 -

No, "msiexec.exe /i BarTender.msi PKC=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX EDITION=A /q" through SCCM/Active directory (which would install all components) doesn't work either.
I get the feeling that the installer does something that must be run in interactive context..0 -
Shouldn't you be using the /qn option to install without displaying a user interface? I don't know of a /q option.
Perhaps you could omit the EDITION option and specify the ADDLOCAL option instead with the items listed of what you wish to install.
An upcoming SR3 will be released in the not too distant future which might well address some silent install issues.0 -
Some more information that has come to my attention:
SCCM supports installs using setup.exe. In fact the customer could in theory use our Web Trial or Web Installer if desired.
On the Standard program tab in the "Create Package and Program Wizard" you can specify the executable and command line options to install BarTender with. Our standard command line switches should apply. For example:
setup.exe /s /v"/qn PKC=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx ADDLOCAL=BarTender,LicenseServer"
We recommend you add the properties such as ADDLOCAL and PKC at the command line. In this case we don't see the need to edit BarTender.msi, but if required you would need to add the properties to the "Property" table in Orca
-----------------
I hope that makes sense to you as I've little experience of SCCM.0 -

I've tried all variants of command-line switches to the MSI-install, and it always ends with a 1603 failure code.
However, exe-driven unattended installation works with SCCM according to the example. So I will stick to this for now.
The downside is that you cannot add additional properties as you say, and you cannot include the address to the license server either.
(To previous Bartender installations I added a preconfigured BTLM.INI with address to the license server through an MST.)0 -

Hello Ian.
I have no problem with silent install from command line, but i have a problem to prepare installation for distribution with AD group policy.
I am using Orca and would like create MST ... but where in MSI (at Orca) can i set which products should be installed or set for exampe path for PrintStation, license server etc.
Your group policy installation manual is very simply for this purpose.
Thanks
Peter

At the moment its best to use the installer executable rather than the MSI. We are looking to improve matters for the future in this area though.

bt101_sr3_2954_suite.exe /L"1033" /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=BarTender,Commander" ProductLanguage=1033" EDITION=EA" PKC=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx"
I using the above syntax but it's not working. Please help!

You either use ADDLOCAL or EDITION, but don't use both of them.
Also, your use of quotes doesn't seem correct.
Furthermore, the PKC has 4 blocks of 4 characters, not 3 blocks of 4.
A valid syntax would e.g. be:
bt101_sr3_2954_suite.exe /L"1033" /s /v"/qn ProductLanguage=1033 ADDLOCAL=BarTender,Commander PKC=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx"

If one was to use the Extracted MSI: here are a trial install feature selection for me that one can put into MST:
Grab the MSI from temp during initial test install, Create a response transform and edit:
Property table:
ADDLOCAL BarTender,BatchMaker,Commander,HistoryExplorer,Librarian,PrinterMaestro,PrintStation,ReprintConsole,SecurityCenter,SystemDatabaseFeature table: set the level to 101 and attrib to 8 for anything you don’t want:
Feature Table:
Languages Additional Languages Files needed for [ProductName] to run in various languages. 46 101 8
LicenseServer Seagull License Server [ProductName] manages BarTender component licenses on the network. 40 101 INSTALLDIR 8
SDK BarTender .NET SDKs Install .NET BarTender SDKs. 44 101 INSTALLDIR 8
WPS Web Print Server 51 101 INSTALLDIR 0
However, i would advise on using the Executable as it has better logic:-
BT101_SR4_2961_Suite.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=BarTender,BatchMaker,Commander,HistoryExplorer,Librarian,PrinterMaestro,PrintStation,ReprintConsole,SecurityCenter,SystemDatabase"
