Seagull License Server Service Crashes After Starting Daylight Savings Time
Summary
Versions 9.3 and 9.4 of the Seagull License Server both have an issue that causes the service to crash after changing to Daylight Savings Time. This crash is unavoidable in the affected builds, and will happen in any region that observes Daylight Savings Time. Switching back to Standard Time in the fall does not cause a crash. To correct the problem, you simply need to restart the Seagull License Server service from the Windows Services panel.
Symptoms
The Seagull License Server service will crash just after midnight with the following error message in the Windows Event Viewer:
“The Seagull License Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).”
If the service is not restarted, BarTender will be unable to connect your Seagull License Server. BarTender may then display any of the following messages:

Message 1402 - BarTender cannot locate the Seagull License Server on the network.

Message 2401 - Although BarTender cannot connect to Seagull License Server, your BarTender will continue to function normally for another <data> day(s).

Message 2402 - BarTender has not been able to connect to Seagull License Server for <data> day(s).

Message 2403 - BarTender has not been able to connect to Seagull License Server for some time.
Version 9.4
If you are using version 9.4, please upgrade the Seagull License Server to the latest service release. This service release fixes the crash problem, and sets the Seagull License Server service to restart automatically in the event of any other failure.
You can download the latest service release for 9.4 here: http://www.seagullscientific.com/aspx/fixes_94.aspx
You only need to upgrade the Seagull License Server application to correct this problem. However, we do recommend upgrading the BarTender clients to address the other issues listed on that page.
Version 9.3
If you are using version 9.3, there is no known workaround at this time. However, you can mitigate the impact the crash will have by setting the Seagull License Server service to “restart automatically on failure”. This will force the License Server service to restart anytime it crashes. Combined with BarTender’s “Grace Period”, this should ensure that production is not disrupted by the DST event.
To set the service to restart:

Open the Windows Services panel.

Double click on the Seagull License Server service.

Go to the Recovery tab.

Change the first and second failure responses to “Restart the Service”
