Contacting Sls Across Subnets
We just moved to a new facility with 2 different subnets on our network. The BarTender client is on one subnet and the BarTender SLS is on another. I can ping the Server from the client but BarTender Client is not able to contact the SLS. I have checked both ports and they are set to the same port. I have gone into the Client's Admin and specified the ip addr of the SLS server but still it will not work. SLS is version 7.10. Any advice on what else to do?

On what Windows OS are both SLS and BarTender running? Note that this is a very old version and is not supported with the latest versions of Windows:

Could there be any security application or firewall blocking the communication?
Could you also try changing the port under which both are trying to communicate?

One thing to know regarding BarTender version 7.10. This version is not considered 'WAN compatible' and is hard coded to 1 network hop. So if you run a traceroute between the locations ( from a DOS prompt enter TRACERT <ip addy>) and you see more than one network hop between them then it will not work.
Our recommendation would be to move to a supported version. We did remove the hop limitation from BarTender starting with version 8.0, so any of the current versions would not be limited to location.0 -

Sure enough, it takes 2 hops for the client PC to get to the Print server. I understand that the SLS software is free to download, is that correct? We are licensed for 3 printers. We just moved to our new facility. I just checked the server where the ver 7 of SLS is installed and I can't find anywhere the license key is stored. I imagine I would need that after I installed the new version of SLS. All our software and manuals are in boxes. So if you can tell me where to find the license key on the server, that would be great! Thanks. 0 -

Version 7.1 is no longer available to download, you'd need to have the disk to reload it.
7.1 License Server uses a hardware key, either parallel or USB for license validation. It will be plugged into the back of the server computer.0
