Listing Printers Logged In The License

Hi,

 

I am assigned to put up an alert for incorrect printers that will be logged under Seagull License server. 

 

Our application alert (PRTG) uses the following sensors:

* HTTP

* Port

* WMI

* SNMP

* Linux

* Mail Servers

* File servers

* SQL Database Servers

* Harware parameter

* Exe

* Text result

 

I would like to ask if there's a way I can list the printers logged on the Seagull License Server using one of the above available sensors.

  Unfortunately License Server doesn't allow remote monitoring by any other application.  However, the idea you have here is interesting and so I'll add it to our official wish list.

  Just another question. Is there a way to get the list of printers, logged in the license on a text file maybe?

  In License Server, via the "Administer>Application Message Setup" menu item, you can configure the application messages that License Server can raise.  From message number #2200 to #2204 you have messages that relate to printer licensing.  You could work out away to capture these messages that are written to a log in order to process and maintain a parallel list of licensed printers in your own application.  It might not be perfect, but it could get you closer to what you want.

  Hello, 

  Above Ian wrote " I'll add it to our official wish list.". Is it in between possible, to monitor active Bartender licenses with PRTG? We use the Seagull License Server 2016 R3. Google was not helpful...

  Mathias: From what I can see PRTG monitors printers, not license usage of printers in the License Server.  I guess using tools like this, and even your own implementations, that tracks print jobs, they would allow you to intuit what the current license state should be, but you won't be able to get that info directly right now.  This is probably the sort of functionality that we'd add to the BarTender REST API at some stage, but we don't have it now, and I don't have any info on if or when we would see such functionality.

  However, the request is noted, and we agree that such a capability would be useful to customers.
