9.4 And 10.x Licences
Hi,
we currently have 70 Bartender 9.4 licences and also the 9.4 licence server. For a new application we need ca 10 Bartender v10 licences that we will buy in addition.
We have no need to upgrade the 70 stations that run 9.4 and also don't see the benefit, so ideally we'll just leave these alone.
So the question is can we
- install both licence servers on preferably one server but on different ports
or
- upgrade the licence server to v10 and have both licences in this server?
kind regards,
Matthias

Matthias,
To clarify, you have a 70 *printer* license and you need to add 10 printers to your business? The editions of the software that include the license server do not have a "station" limit, as they are licensed per printer used.

Hey nRyder,
yes we have a BT-EA70 licence. We use up to 65 different printers per day.
For the new application we need Bartender v10 so we will add these.
I know that upgrading to 80 v10 licenses would be best, but we definitly don't want to upgrade all these stations if there is another way :)0 -
A Seagull sales representative is more qualified to answer this than I. However, I don't believe you can run 2 license servers on the same server. If you did decide to get a 10.1 10 printer to supplement your facility, you would need to set each client to specifically check in at the correct license server.
On the other hand, the other option is to update 9.4 to 10.1, and then get a 10 printer add-on to that. While costly now, it won't be any better when 9.4 is no longer supported and you're forced to get an entirely new 70 printer license (or a 70 printer add-on to your 10.1 license).
Just my thoughts - again, you should be able to contact your reseller with these questions as well.

Are you concerned about the amount of work required to upgarde the workstations? From my understanding of BarTender License Server (and I amy be wrong), you can just upgrade your License Server but you don't have to upgrade the individual clients unless you design labels that are saved in the newer version. As long as you save your documents in Versoin 9.4 having a newer version of License Server is fine.

1. Only a single License Server can run on any one computer.
2. Your best option is to contact sales about a printer add-on upgrade for your existing license: http://www.bartenderbarcodesoftware.com/label-software/contact_us.aspx
3. Note that if you were to upgrade the software version, you would just need to install and activate License Server at a minimum. The various BarTender clients that connect to License Server can be of older versions (v9.40 for example) if you really want, as printer licensing compatibility is maintained for older BarTender installations when a new License Server is implemented. This lets you upgrade BarTender clients, or not at all, in your own time.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just wait for my reseller to come back to me.
