Unknown Number Of Labels For Serialization

Hi, I have a bartender label format with a field (from txt file) set as the starting number for serializing. The preview & test works when I ask for x number, but in the final application I don't know how many will be required - the printer should keep printing & incrementing each time the product sensor sees an item. How / where do I set this function, or is it a case of ask for more than ever required & cancel it when the next format is selected?

The text file is generated from .NET frontend, then sent to the printer via Commander.

  For seralization setup,
  1) Double click on the object you want to seralize-> More Options-> click on Seralization tab-> Tick "Seralize"
  The Serialization options allow you to specify exactly how you would like the selected data substring to serialize. There are different type of Seralization and increment/decrement amount.....
  
  2) File-> Print-> "Quantity" Tab-> Number of Serlaized Labels to specify the desired sequence length when serializing labels.
  For greater flexibility, you can use data source options to specify that the number of labels to serialize should be read from a field in the data file or entered at print time by selecting "Set by Print Dialog" or "Set by Data Source option".
  
  
  When printing labels with one or more objects set to serialization data, either the number entered at print time or the data entered in the Screen Data field will determine the starting value of the sequence(In your case, you get the starting number from text file). The number entered in the Number of Serialized Labels field will determine the length of the label sequence that is to be printed(In your case, you do not have this number determined yet? right? )
  
  We do not direct support for unknown number of seralization but there might have few ways to achieve this in your production process.
  
  For example: Determine the most suitable number on Number of Seralized labels and tick "update substring after print" on seralization option. The substring data should be updated to its new value after every print job.
  For example: Use Microsoft VBScript to increment when print or use customized program to keep on incrementing when print
  
  
  It will be difficult to give you any more specific guidance about how to achieve this in your current environment without knowing more details.   Susan, thanks for the reply.
  
  I have the label serialization setup correctly I believe, when set at >1 it prints & increments OK.
  You are right, I wont know the exact number required at the start of the print job. I can calculate a rough figure but obviously don't want to go under the actual & have unlabelled boxes, so have to over estimate.
  
  How about this scenario: I set the qty of serialized labels to ~50 more than required. When the run is finished I will have some remaining in the print queue / spool. Is there a way to overwrite or cancel these whenever a new format is sent to the printer (i.e. change of product or other label data), I wouldn't want to continue with the old format before starting the new.
  
  Or (not something I'm looking forward to trying!): Somehow monitor the txt file folder from the originating program & whenever the file is read or deleted, add a new one with the serial data incremented by one. Commander will see this & send a new label to print, effectively not using seralisation but printing a unique one each time. Hopefully this process would happen faster than the units reaching the printer?!
  
  Do you have any other suggestions? I had a quick look at the VBS options in the data source, but cant see how to implement it in this way.
