Lowercase Letters Don't Serialize?
I've run into this issue, and it seems to go back at least as far as 9.2 (That's the oldest version I had readily avaliable to test).
If I take 2 serialized fields, using the default "Auto Alpha or Numeric" and make one field 'AAAA', and one 'aaaa', and print serialized labels, the capital letters serialize as expected (AAAB, AAAC, etc), but the lowercase letters stay put (aaaa, aaaa, etc.).
Yes, I can workaround this by using custom serialization or databases, but Basic users cannot.
Discuss.

I have 8.01 and have the same issue. 0 -
We checked in with development on this and have been told that Auto Alpha or Numeric has only ever covered the based 36 characters; meaning numbers and upper case letters. We have never extended this to lower case letters partly because no one has ever asked before.
It should be noted that the Basic edition offers only simple serialization, so it remains consistent if not all serialization possibilities are catered for. That said, I believe we will be taking another look at this to see if we should support lower case letters in Auto Alpha or Numeric serialization.0 -

Thanks for the response. In that case, I was given bad information from your technical support team earlier this year:

Hello Nick,
I'm very sorry for not getting to your email sooner. The issue that you've seen is a bug in the software. This was by no means intended. I am going to write this up and submit it to our sales department and they should be able to correct this issue. Please let me know if this answers your quesiton.
Kind Regards,

The issue is rarely a problem, but has the possibility of putting a Basic user in a bind, and making us, as a reseller (advertising that basic alpha and numeric serializing is supported) look bad. Thanks.0
