Hi All:

We use BarTender 9.30.2725.2652  --  the computer installed it on crashed, and I was able to get all our labels that we'd already had sorted for us off the bad drive and I copied over all the Seagull folder to the new drive.

But when I click one of our .BWT files to print a label, I now get an error message:

"the application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect....."

Do I have to reinstall Bartender on the new computer?  I'm largely ignorant of IT matters but I'm unfortunately (at this time)all we got!

I would recommend trying to a complete manual removal and reinstall of BarTender. Do note the version of BarTender you are using is no longer supported and only compatible with Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 and below operating systems. For further support, you probably want to look into getting an upgraded version of BarTender.

Instructions for manual remove/reinstall of BarTender:

  1. Go to the Windows Control Panel->Programs/Features->find Bartender right click to uninstall it->follow the installer prompts to uninstall and deactivate BarTender.
  2. Manually remove the following folders:
    1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Seagull
    2. C:\ProgramData\Seagull
    3. C:\Users\<specific user>\AppData\Roaming\Seagull
    4. C:\Users\<specific user>\AppData\Local\Seagull
  3. Remove the following registry keys:
    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Seagull Scientific
    2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Seagull Scientific
    3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Seagull Scientific
  4. Open the Windows Services to confirm all the BarTender related services are removed.
  5. Reboot computer.
  6. Run the BarTender installer to reinstall BarTender.

If there are any issues during the uninstall process above, proceed to the following manually removal process:

Stop and Remove Services

1. Stop all services installed by BarTender. This can be done from the command line as follows:

sc stop "BarTender System Service"

sc stop "Commander Service"

sc stop "Seagull License Server"

sc stop Maestro

2. Delete all services installed by BarTender. This can be done from the command line as follows:

sc delete "BarTender System Service"

sc delete "Commander Service"

sc delete "Seagull License Server"

sc delete Maestro
