How to move old license to a new laptop
Hi,
Our company forced us to move to Windows 11, so we had to change the laptop on which we had Bartender installed.
We have a very old printer and we were using Bartender 10.1 SR4
I installed it on the new laptop and I'm trying to figure out with IT how to find the printer on our network now, but once it's done, I'll need to move the license from that old computer to the new one.
Can someone tell me how? I've seen some threads online but not talking about that version.
My IT guy copied that file from the old laptop to the new one's desktop but I guess a copy paste won't work... : license.lic
I wasn't even in the company when they bought the software, so finding the email or paper with the license key will be complicated... Can I just make it go from the old to the new one?
Thank you in advance!

BarTender 10.1 is not Windows 11 compatible and although it may run there could be issues with it.
You would need to have a copy of the BarTender keycode in order to be able to move the licence to the location and also would need the BarTender 10.1 installer program too, if you have not already got it. If you open BarTender you should be able to see the Support Number on the Help>About screen and if you contact Seagull's Technical Support team they maybe able to locate the Product Key Code for you and possibly send/give you access to the 10.1 installation files as these are no longer listed on their website.
Saying that, if you don't have a Maintenance Agreement in force, in view of the potential Windows compatibility issues you may want to consider purchasing a new licence instead. You would need to speak to a BarTender reseller local to you, or else approach Seagull's Sales team as they can put you in touch with one. If you copy across your existing label and any associated files (images etc) they should still work with the new version so I would not expect you would need to design them

Thanks Peter for the reply, just got the notification.
I had found the 10.1 installer and it was working fine on the trial version, loading our existing labels.
However we spent hours with IT trying to find the old printer on the network, I think there was some firewall issue.
When we finally found it though, bartender 10.1 stopped working for some reason, anytime I try to open a label, it freeze and crash...
I'll get the company that sells us these printers to come have a look, we'll probably get a new license, but I want to be sure newer versions will work with this old printer that we bought at least 15 years ago...

As long as you have a compatible printer driver and a port that matches the printer connection then you should be able to print to a 15 year old printer
