Doesn't print/printing errors
Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone would be able to help me figure out this issue I'm currently having with BarTender Designer and Printer: Honeywell PX45.
Here are the things I've tried with the Honeywell PX45 (300 dpi)
- Reset printer to defaults
- Ensure printer is connected and working (it prints from different software)
- Update to latest firmware
- Install Honeywell driver from Seagull Scientific
- Download Arial Narrow TTF to the printer
- Checking printer port
The issue I'm currently having is when I create a blank template that's 2x5, I also add sample text and select the Arial Narrow font. It causes the printer to print out 3 empty labels, the printer restarts and displays error messages. Such as application break, printhead not detected, out of media.
When I try to use a different font such as Intermec Andale Mono, nothing ends up happening.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me understand and try to solve why printing doesn't work?

I would probably go back a couple of steps first to help to try and diagnose the issue. Try removing the fonts from the driver and resetting the print back to factory defaults. I would then check that the driver Printing Preferences>Stock settings match the labels you are printing. Finally from the Printer Properties>Tools tab click on the Action drop down and Feed option to make sure the printer feeds a blank label without going into an error. Then from the Print drop down select the Generic Test to make sure the printer is actually printing and again feeding without going into an error.
If that is all okay then open BarTender Designer and create the correct size label where the page size is the height of the label not including the inter-label gap and the width of the page being the width of the label and backing to either side with margins set on the layout to the right and left that match the size of the exposed backing paper. After that add a text object and without editing it print 2 copies to see if that prints without issue.
Unless you have connected to the printer via serial port or are going to be printing to it in some form of offline mode you probably dont need to download the font to the printer and I would first try amending the text field to change the font to Arial Narrow and reprint a couple of labels.
Hopefully if that all works you can then design your label as required.

Hello, thank you for the help!
We found the issue was that the printer was set to IPL mode, it's set to auto now and it's able to print.
Do you know if the label templates can specify that it's IPL? Or can we create a label that is for IPL?

I believe the commands get sent down in IPL but have come across it previously where the mode on the printer itself had to be set to DP (Direct Protocol - now covered by the Autosense option) to work correctly in some instances.
