Upc Code Formatting Question S’abonner

Hello,

I recently began working for a company who uses BarTender Version 7.51 to create UPC labels for their product. Apparently they have been relying on templates created by someone no longer with the company, and lo and behold, one of those templates is missing. I was asked to figure out how to recreate the label from a sample of the last printed copy.

I started with an existing template for one of our other product labels. I double clicked on the bar code and under "Sample Text" I entered the numbers on the previously printed label and clicked "okay". This seemed to work, except that it keeps putting two zeros ahead of the numbers I entered and then cutting off the last few digits or blanking them out.

For example,
Entered: 8 37410 00600 7
Result : 008 37410 006
Otherwise: 008 37410 006__7

I have played with the various settings I can find under Options and Advanced, but nothing seemed to resolve this minor discrepancy. Can anyone advise me on how to get it to enter the number as I type it in, unaltered?

Thanks for your help.

There's an issue in 7.51 where it truncates data to 9 characters. Because a UPC bar code requires 12 characters, BarTender adds zeros to fulfill that requirement put forth by the bar code. Unfortunately, 7.51 is not supported anymore, so you may need to upgrade to the latest version, 10.0.

Thanks, Jim, for your reply. I'm confused, however, because to my knowledge this is the only label making program that the company has owned, so if there is no solution then I wonder how the original labels were created. Is it absolutely certain that there is no way to circumvent this 12 character requirement? Perhaps I need to select something different from the symbology menu? "UPC-A" is what was selected in the template I am working from.

I did some searching on Seagull's website, and found the following:

It gives some workarounds to the issue. Basically, Microsoft released a security patch that interfered with the way BarTender reads text in version 7.1-7.51. Hope that helps!
