Upgrade From 6.2 To 10.0 S’abonner

Hello,  New to the forum, Working with BarTender since 1996.

Last upgrade I had was 6.2, and it has been working great for many years.

My company now has a 10.0 upgrade for me to install, over my 6.2

Should I expect anything special in the upgrade process?

Do all by thousands of saved 6.2 formats now become 10.0, or only when I open and re-save them?

All my folders for saved formats, and database attachments remain the same?

Thanks,

To be safe, make a backup copy of your labels formats.

The formats will remain of the v6.20 version until you open the file and save them as v10.0 BarTender documents.

BarTender v10.0 is designed to be backwards compatible with previous versions of the software, although of course we cannot guarantee 100% that there won't be some issues that require tweaking of your designs.  A lot has happened since the days of v6.20 in BarTender.

Thanks,  The upgrade will automatically remove the 6.2 .exec?

Probably yes.  I do know 100% that anything from v8.00 onwards will get removed as part of the installation.  I'm not totally sure with older than that BarTender versions.  Count on it being removed or disabled in some way.

Hello,

Upgrade from 6.2 to 10.0 went well.  More things to learn to use.

Another set of questions, maybe I should post in a different topic.

I also support other sites BarTender versions.  Everything from v7.10, v7.72 to v9.1.

1. We have a license server that indicates v7.75.  The server is moving and we will have to re-load.

Does the Enterprise 9.1 disk used to both load both the PC using BTW, and the license server, to the same v9.1?

2. What is the lowest compatible version supported, when we go from WIN XP to WIN 7 on the PCs?

3. If the server goes from WIN 2003to WIN 2008, 7.75 or 9.1 will still work?

Thanks,

1. I'm not sure I follow you on your first question.  You should install the version of License Server that your Product Key Code license is for.

2. BarTender is compatible with Windows 7 from v9.20 onwards.

3. Windows Server 2008 standard is compatible with v7.75, while the x64 variation of that needs v8.01.  The Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 is compatible with v9.20 or higher as this is the server equivalent of Windows 7.

First question redone.  When we have a Enterprise 9.1 or 9.2. or 10.0 version to install, does the same disk that is loaded into the PC to allow design and print also need to load a license server that the PC can connect too?  The licnese server is what controls the PC validation and xx number of printers to be allowed to print?

The License Server controls the printer licenses as the Enterprise/Automation editions are licensed by the number of printers that you print to rather than the number of computers where BarTender is installed.  In fact, you can install the BarTender client software on as many computers in your network as you wish.  Once each BarTender client is installed you then activate it using the PKC.  Note that this isn't an online activation, you're effectively telling BarTender which edition it should run as, and in this case, to look on the network for a License Server.

The License Server should be installed only once on your network and is online activated as this IS your license.  At print time the BarTender clients connect to the License Server to update it as to which printers have been used.  On older versions the CD includes the BarTender Suite and License Server as two separate installations.  This would also be two separate downloads from our website.  In version 10.0 we made License Server part of the BarTender Suite installation, and therefore an optional component to install.

Thanks,

Questions from my IT group below, and where do I price out a 10.0 upgrade package, with the options for 3 to 20 number of printers?

As Windows 2008 R2 x64 will be used on the server, it looks like we'll need to upgrade the Bartender license server to Version 10 (latest version) as I don't believe we could purchase version 8.01 at this point. Will the new license server use a hardware key (USB) or will we be able to use a alpha-numeric key to activate the application on the server? What are the costs associated with upgrading the license server to the latest software version?

By default BarTender is sold as a software only activation (online) through the use of a Product Key Code.

For pricing details I suggest you get in touch with your local Auto-ID reseller on contact the appropriate sales department for your region.
