Bartender Randomly Crashes S’abonner

We have been suffering with Bartender randomly crashing, we have not been able to find a pattern to these crashes or anything that would give us a clue.

I sent a report into Technical Support over two weeks ago along with dump files using the options under the help menu but have not received anything back from them.

The software was installed using a full admin account C++ SP1 pack has been installed (as noted in other posts)

Bartender is installed on a Windows 7 32bit machines.

Some of the things we have tried already.

Updated one pc from v10 SR3 to SR4.

Asked the users to only have one label open at a time.

Increased the page file size.

Checked all logs for any errors.

We are at a loss now unless Technical Support finally get back to us.

Well at least I now know it isn't just us. I have been reporting this to Seagull for a long time. But like you said, I am never able to get a pattern going. I have tried opening like 20 documents and printing them all, and it seems fine. Other days it will crash after a while with just 2 open. However, they don't appear to create dump files most of the time.

I understand this would be a very difficult issue to track down by technical support since we can't find a good pattern. All I can really say is that BarTender 9.4 was stable, and BarTender 10.0 and 10.1 all experience these crashes. We run on Windows 7 64 bit Lenovos

I think I will just give the girls in our print room the tech support number and ask them to ring them 5-10 times a day like they ring me.  If they give them as much grief as I get then they will soon resolve the problem. :D

Hey there,

Has anyone found a fix for this or resolution?

All troubleshooting has been tried but to no avail. BarTender just keeps randomly crashing.

In the middle of print jobs as well so thats not going so well.

Can anyone assist please??

Sydknee: I just came across your post today after Samantha's comment flagged it as a new update on an existing post.  I think I was on vacation at the time of your original post, but unfortunately no one else seems to have covered it.  Note that in general Seagull technicians cover forum questions in their spare time between calls, emails and web chats, so it's not the best way to get in touch with us for important/critical issues.

Checking the CRM system and Outlook I don't see any support request recorded from your company?  Did you guys get in touch with us, and if so how?  Do you perhaps have any previous email correspondence that you could forward to the EMEA email address (emeatech@seagullscientific.com) for technicians to look into?

Is the problem that's occurring with BarTender happening during a manual, interactive session with BarTender itself, or while BarTender is being automated for printing with something like Commander or a third party application.

Samantha: Beyond another forum user giving you a magic bullet solution, your best bet is to work with tech support in the US directly via phone/email.

This happens during interactive sessions with BarTender. I've tried and tried to find a way to replicate it, and simply can't. I have opened like 40 documents in an attempt to get it to crash regularly, and can't. Then when I'm back to using one document, suddenly it'll decide to not work anymore. It could happen when moving a field, re-naming a data source, re-sizing, printing a large file. Really anything... and I can't yet find a pattern. The only thing I could do consistently was a certain few files would crash BT 10.0 upon sending to the spooler, but that is just one issue among the crashes just during design phase.

I've asked my users to try to log every time it happens and what the last thing they did was in an attempt to locate a pattern, but they haven't done that.

Working with Tech Support so far has not helped, but I don't necessarily blame them as the fact I can't replicate it with consistency makes it a very challenging issue.

All I know is that BarTender 9.4 is stable for me, and you guys recently stopped even offering it. This issue has existed in some capacity since 10.0. With 10.1 being a bit more stable than 10.0 according to one of my main users (maybe only 2-3 crashes per day instead of 15).

As an FYI there will be a SR4 for v10.1 at some point during the summer, so maybe that will help with some issues that might be experienced.  Also, we are aware of these reports and we're working to get on top of them.
