Shared Printer/network Printing S’abonner

We are trialing the enterprise software and have run into 1 issue in regards to multiple PC's printing to 1 printer. Wondering if there is a configuration issue.

THe printer data seems to be stored within the label itself. However the printer is connected via USB to desktop1. When we open a label on desktop2 it cannot see the printer as the same as desktop1 as it is a shared network printer on desktop2. Therefor it changes the printer to 'default' (not a label printer). When the label is then opened again on Desktop1 it points to 'default' still. The label has also changed from being Thermal Direct to Thermal Transfer.

How can this be set so as not to encounter this issue.

Thanks

It sounds like the local and network printer instances are not using the same printer driver which is why BarTender doesn't default to the correct printer model when opening the document on the second PC.  Double check that the same driver model is installed/used on each PC.

Ian,

Thanks for the advice. However both PCs are using the same driver. Just that one PC is using the printer as a LOCAL printer and the other PC is using the SHARED printer. So the printer is recognised as a different printer form each PC.

I effectively have each computer setup as a standalone installation of Bartender. are they supposed to run with a Bartender Master & slave so that the Bartender software talks to each other and sends the print job from 1 Bartender to the other Bartender?

Is your problem concerning printer licensing in License Server??

Your explanations are leaving me confused on what problem I'm supposed to be helping you to solve.  Give me the problem and I can tell you how best to solve it.  Telling me how you're trying to solve things just clouds the issue.

Ian,

I dont think it is related to printer licensing.

The issue is -

We have Bartender installed on 2 computers.

We have 1 Zebra printer which is connected by USB to PC 1.

On PC 2 we can still print to the Zebra as a shared printer (ie. \\pc1\zebra)

We have our labels stored on Dropbox, accessible by both computers.

PC1 is our primary label printing machine so all labels were initially created & printed from PC1.

If we open a label on PC2, it does not recognise the 'USB' printer as valid so changes it to the windows 'Default' (a4) printer. It also resets the speed, and thermal transfer settings for the label.

We can then print the label if we change the printer to the shared printer \\pc1\zebra and change the lable setting to thermal direct.

However even if we do not save the label, when we open it again on PC1 it has obviously inherited the settings from PC2 and again changes the printer to the Windows Default Printer on PC1, changes the speed and thermal transfer setting.

So each time we open a label on a different PC it changes setttings in the label. It seems we can either only effeciently use 1 PC or we have to have 2 copies of all our labels, 1 for each PC. Which then means we have to manually duplicate any changes.

I am sorry if the descriptions were not helpful. Hopefully the above is better. I am not sure i can explain it any better.

Thanks

Remove the printer driver on PC2.  On server properties for printer drivers on PC2 create a new local port and give the port the UNC path \\pc1\zebra as the value.  Make a local install of the exact same driver on PC2 using the new local port (pointing to the printer share over a UNC path) you created.
