I have a nagging issue with a customer that has been around for quite awhile just can't find a solution.

    Specs:

    Bartender 9.4
    WinXP Workstations running SP3

Bartender labels reside on a Win 2008 member server.

users do not use domain login on workstations.

there is a SBS 2003 Domain controller but they chose not to use domain login for workstations, they just login with local accounts.

    Problem:
When a user goes to print they most always do select records. 8 out of 10 times when they click select records they get an ODBC error.

if they just click through the next 3 error screens they will then get the screen to enter their query arguments, click OK and the records pop right up.

i have redone all the ODBC connections on the machines, al the testing i do on the ODBC connections never gives any errors no matter how many times you test it.

It just gets frustrating having to click through the ODBC error screen all the time. anybody have any suggestions.

    Hi Tom,

What ODBC error do they see? Also, what kind of database is it?

if i remember correctly it is a 3023 error. It basically says it can't connect to the database. It lists a few lines of things to check. The usual things like verify the workstation can see the server etc ...

It connects to a pervasive database.

Do you think upgrading to version 10 might fix the issue?

I am trying to connect tally_ODBC file as database in my bartender software but it shows a error while connecting which is as follows:

ODBC encountered an error accessing your database. The error may be correctable by doin one or more of the following:
    1) Closely inspecting all settings in your Database Connection Setup dialog.
2)Confirming that you can read and search your database with another database tool.

[Tally][Tally ODBC Driver] Connection successful !!!

    Error TLYxx: Unknown Error
    Data Source Error: 0

    ---------------------------------------------------------
please help overcome this error. I need to use this ODBC file.
I am using Bartender Enterprise Automation Single User.

Did you write that you get these ODBC errors, but that if you click through them eventually it will all print correctly??

Have you tried to ignore the ODBC errors by enabling the option under the "Options" tab and "ODBC Messages" button of the database setup dialog?

We have recently had ODBC errors cropping up using Bartender 6.20 & 7.75 Enterprise. We contacted our vendor who suggested upgrading to 10.1 Automation which we have done on a trial basis. However, we are still getting errors despite the fact that we can use ODBC queries in Excel all day long using the same source without any problems. The database is a Unix system which works perfectly with other applications. Looking at all the threads, is there a general issue with bartender and ODBC, as we've used three different versions and had the same results.

The errors on 10.1 are : #6668, #3203, "The server threw an exception", "Runtime error" , and the most common one which everyone seems to get " Odbc encountered an error whilst accessing your database. etc etc"

For each problem with database connection I suggest you send an email to technical support providing the BarTender document in use and a screenshot of the error message.  The are many reasons why a database connection error might appear so it won't be possible for me to give all of you a blanket explanation.
